Demand for accountants still growing

The number of internet job ads in Australia's accounting sector increased by 3 per cent in July, according to the Olivier Job Index.

Accountants heading into their busiest time of year bolstered the jump in available job numbers, Olivier says.

Commercial and company accountants were the most keenly sought after last month, with an increase of 7.8 per cent in advertising in this category, while receivables roles grew by around 6 per cent.

Advertised jobs in some accounting sectors fell though, including payroll by 4.9 per cent and admin / clerical by 3.5 per cent.

The Australian job market as a whole saw the total number of job ads fall by about half a per cent.
Olivier says there is a two-speed economy in Australia, with advertised jobs in the boom states of Western Australia and Queensland growing by 2.37 per cent and 2.5 per cent respectively while New South Wales dropped by 2.57 per cent and Victoria fell 0.42 per cent.
