>> Depends on which city you live, and weather you need mobility,
For example, in Canberra, and many other smaller city,
people need car because BUS runs once an hour during weekend,
and stops service by 6pm...
But in sydney/melbourne, BUS and TRAIN (or TRAM) runs frequently
and you may not need a car, (parking is also expensive in these cities)
Taking public transportation waste a lot of your time,
AND
you can easily park your car at a reasonable price (say, $1 / hour, or about $5 a day)
AND
you live in a place where public transport is not convienient
Most car costs $70-150 per week. (REFER to my post in titag below)
I think male/female car owners ratio is about 3:1 to 4:1
(for chinese students)
and I would say about 10 to 20% of female chinese students would have a car,
and most girls' car are newer than guys' car
(I think girls prefer NOT to drive than driving a poor car)
I knew girls driving following cars,
===above $30000===
Mini
Beetles
RAV (4WD)
====== about $10000-20000===
MAXIMA (mistubishi)
MONDEO (ford)

http://www.naati.com.au/
